Croatia Football World Cup: Germany and Holland win while Croatia draw in FIFA World Cup

Germany booked a place in the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a 4-0 aggregate victory over North Macedonia. Kai Havertz broke the deadlock in the 50th minute before Chelsea team-mate Timo Werner scored twice to help Germany to a 2-1 defeat by North Macedonia in Duisburg in March, the only result of a seven-match winning streak in the last eight games, European Group J.

Jamal Musiala scored Hansi Flick’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute, set up by substitute Karim Adeyemi. Germany has extended their eight-point deficit with two rounds of games remaining. Flick has overseen five wins since taking over from Joachim Low after the European Championships in the summer.

Ionu Mitri’s goal in the 26th minute was enough for Romania to beat Armenia 1-0 in Bucharest. Iceland beat Liechtenstein 4-0 in another group match. Romania moved up to second in the group with 13 points, one ahead of North Macedonia and Armenia by 12 points. Iceland has eight points and one Liechtenstein came out on top against Armenia in September.

Holland vs Gibraltar

Memphis Depay scored two goals, had two assistants, and missed a penalty kick as the Netherlands beat Gibraltar 6-0 to stay top of Group G of Europe in a FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier. Second-placed Norway, playing without injured striker Erling Haaland, beat Montenegro 2-0 to stay two points clear of the Dutch, while Burak Ylmaz scored the winner in the penalty area in the second half as Turkey beat Latvia 2-1 in Riga.

Depay has put his disappointing club season in Barcelona behind him on a good night at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam against one of the world’s best footballers. His first goal of the night was his 13th year for Oranje, breaking the Dutch record for the 12th year in the calendar year by Patrick Kluivert.

Depay’s strike in the 21st minute after a pass to Davy Klaassen came just two minutes after Gibraltar goalkeeper Bradley Banda marked his first international game by saving the striker’s first penalty of the night.

Depay made no mistake about his second Dutch 3-0 kick in the first half. Captain Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring with a header in the ninth minute from Depay, the defender’s first goal since returning from a knee injury last season. I’m so glad I got the goal for the first time in a long time, Van Dijk told Dutch broadcaster NOS. For more to know about Qatar World Cup tickets Click here.

Defender Denzel Dumfries made it 4-0 three minutes after half-time and was replaced by Arnaut Danjuma, who arrived late to replace the injured Cody Gakpo, scoring a goal when he returned to the Dutch team for the first time since his first two international games in 2018. Another runner-up, Donyell Malen, completed the course on the 86th. The result could have been worse for the Dutch visitors with 31 attempts to score a goal as far as Gibraltar.

Croatia vs Slovakia

Croatia midfielder and Captain Luka Modric scored in a free-kick that ended in a 2-2 draw with Slovakia as Russia advanced to Group H of Europe in a Qatar World Cup 2022 qualifier. Dropping points means that Croatia, runners-up in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, may need to win in Russia next month to qualify for next year’s FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. No team can finish less than two, making sure they have a place at least in the playoffs.

Slovakia needed a win to keep their qualifying hopes alive against Croatia and took the lead through Ivan Schranz in the 20th minute, but Croatia scored five minutes later when Andrej Kramaric curled the ball into Modric’s deflected shot. Slovakia once again took the lead just before half-time when winger Lukas Haraslin was given plenty of time and space in the distance to shoot the ball at the legs of goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

With time running out for Croatia after a series of Kramaric errors, Modric curled a free-kick against Slovakia’s 71st wall. The goal was the first since the European Championship and came three days after missing a penalty against Cyprus. Nikola Vlasic however gave Croatia all three points while covering the rebound as a few players fought for the ball in a slippery slope.

The ball bounced off the back of fallen defender Martin Koscelnik and Vlasic hit it, but the referee said there had been a false case after a long review of VAR while the players were waiting to kick. Croatia and Russia have been tied at the top of Group H for most of the qualifiers, but the Russians are two points ahead with two games to go in a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Slovenia. Top goal-scoring midfielder Georgy Dzhikiya.

Igor Diveev drove Russia to the lead in the 28th minute before the game Dzhikiya, who jumped and kicked the ball into the far post when it was unmarked in the corner. Josip Ilicic scored for Slovenia to keep the game close and ended Russian coach Valery Karpin’s goalless draw in his last four games in charge.

Slovenia continued to press hard in the second half but was unable to score an equalizer and could no longer qualify. Malta scored in the 98th minute with a 2-2 draw with Cyprus. Mohamed Elyououssi scored both goals in Norway’s victory in Oslo. Turkey fell behind Latvia thanks to a Merih Demiral goal before Serdar Dursun equalized and Yilmaz won.
