“We are now planning to create the grounds for foreign fans and tourists to travel to Iran during their leisure times to visit our country’s attractions as well,”

The Iranian roads minister said.

Vacations in Iran will likely be much inexpensive for foreign visitors than those in Qatar, in part because of the pounding the Iranian Rial has taken due to approvals imposed by the United States in recent years.

Iranian consultants hope fans staying on Kish and traveling back and forth during the Qatar World Cup could benefit the country’s sightseeing sector, which has been ominously affected in recent years by the combined effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the permissions.

Mohammad Mohammadi, the head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, said there are now 72 flights between Iran and Qatar daily. That number, he said, could be increased to 100 flights per day. Mohammadi also said Iran could simplify cargo transfer between the two countries during the FIFA World Cup 2022 period.

Iran is also trying to service new cruise ships to facilitate sea travel to Qatar. Deputy Roads Minister Ali Akbar Safaei swore several new cruise lines will be triggered by Eid al-Fitr in May. To encourage and facilitate more travel, Iran is also expected to waive visas obligatory for incoming visitors from Qatar.

Leila Azhdari, who heads the foreign tourism section at the Iranian tourism ministry, said the foreign ministry had agreed to relinquish visas for travel from Qatar for two months during the World Cup, which will end on December 18. Guests, she said, can apply for free single or multiple-entry passes for 20-day stays during those two months, the particular dates of which will be announced later.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament is regularly held in June and July, but in Qatar typical temperatures at that time of year are about 41C (106F) and can reach 50C (122F) too hot to be outside securely, let alone play at least 90 minutes of football.

During the attempting process, Qatar assured advanced air-conditioning technology that would cool stadiums, training pitches, and fan zones to 23C. However, in 2015 a conclusion was made by FIFA to hold the tournament in winter.

The Qatar World Cup kicks off on 21 November, and the final is on 18 December. This means it falls right in the mid of and interrupts the club football season for many countries. The English Premier League, for the occasion, will not see any matches played between 13 November and 26 December.
