1994 FIFA World Cup: Introduction and first goal

Saudi Arabia was given a strict test on their first-ever World Cup game; a Dutch side boasting the likes of Frank Rijkaard, Ronald Koeman, and Dennis Bergkamp among other top global players was one of the candidates for the Football World Cup. The Saudis would not be deterred, however. The courageous debutants stunned their challengers by opening the counting in the 18th minute.

As Saudi Arabia football team midfielder Fuad Amin rose to glance a header past Ed de Goey and send the Saudi gathering at Washington DC’s RFK Stadium into enthusiasm. It was the perfect start to their FIFA World Cup adventure, but one that only continued until the 50th minute, when the Netherlands national football team score an equalizer.

1994 World Cup: Iconic Al Owairan goal captures Round of 16 spot

The team took heart from their thin loss to the Netherlands and destroyed Morocco 2-1 in the next game as Sami Al Jaber counted his first FIFA World Cup goal and Amin added a second to his contest score. This meant that Saudi Arabia could qualify for the next round if they could secure a point in their final group game against Belgium. Apart from ultimate champions Brazil, Belgium was the only side in the competition to have kept clean sheets in their first two games, but the Green Falcons were up for the contest.

With less than five minutes on the clock, the unpredictable Said Al Owairan picked up the ball in the middle of his half and danced his way past four players before smashing the ball into the far corner to give his team the lead. The Saudi number 10’s raid was chosen as the goal of the contest and Solari’s men held on for a 1-0 win to ensure a spot in the knock-out phase on their World Cup entrance. Sweden, the ultimate bronze medallists, ended Saudi Arabia’s fairy-tale run with a 3-1 win, but 1994 remains the Saudi’s best performance in a FIFA event.

2006 Football World Cup: Al Jaber notches in last ever global competition

The 2006 FIFA World Cup was not a mainly pleasant affair for Saudi Arabia, as they failed to win a single game in Group H. They were drawn against European titans Spain, as well as Ukraine and Tunisia. It would also spot the last global competition for striker Sami Al Jaber, who had come out of retirement to help his team qualify for the Football World Cup Finals in Germany. For more to know about Argentina vs Mexico Tickets Click here.

Re-joining the national side in early 2005, the expert scored three times in the third qualifying round as Saudi Arabia surpassed Group A and sealed a spot at the main contest the following year. In the Saudis’ opening game against Tunisia, Zia Jaziri gave the North Africans the lead midway through the first half, volleying home after some suspect shielding. Saudi Arabia struck back in the second half, however, as Yasser Al Qahtani’s skilful finish levelled the scores 12 minutes after the pause.

With both teams pressing for a winner, Al Jaber came off the seat to strengthen his status as one of the greatest players to ever signify his country when, with six minutes of usual time remaining, he ran onto a eased through ball and calmly positioned past a stretching Ali Boumnijel to spark wild celebrations amongst the squad’s followers in the stadium and at home.

Miserably, that late goal would not prove to be the winner, as Tunisia scratched back an equaliser. However, the goal went into the history books as the last one of Al Jaber’s 46 attacks in a Saudi Arabia shirt. It also remains the state’s last World Cup goal as they are unsuccessful to qualify for the next two competitions in 2010 and 2014.

The game was defined as a ‘Unity’ game, given the strong pledge between the two nations, particularly in the aftermath of Russia’s attack. It is projected that over three million Ukrainian immigrants have resettled in Poland since the start of the conflicts in February. The final score was 5-2 to Poland, which itself raised for support the world charity £1900; given that Chiltern Distribution had backed the Poland team for £100 a goal and Cross-Country Logistics had made the same pledge for £200. Poland Football team World Cup player Robert Lewandowski

According to a report, FC Barcelona has definite to submit an actual, official on paper offer for Poland World Cup striker Robert Lewandowski, totalling around 32 million euros. This is under Bayern’s stated 40m euro estimate of the player, so it’s doubtful that this early offer will allow the handover to go ahead. In its place, expect this to be the first in a long series of discussions between the two FCBs.

At least this puts Barca’s purposes for the transfer well beyond hesitation. This isn’t a coverup they’re looking to land their man. Now, €32m would be an attractive offer for any normal striker, especially the 33-years-old one, but we’re not talking about any old striker here. Robert Lewandowski is the best striker in the world by some edge, and Bayern has no one on the team who can substitute him.

Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic has been declared as a potential extra, but the young Austrian is unlikely to duplicate Lewandowski’s impression on the team at least in the short term. We’ve heard from the Bayern superiors that they certainly intend to keep World Cup striker Robert Lewandowski until the end of his agreement, which expires in 2023. Barcelona thinks there’s some room in that report.

The Catalans must trust that Bayern will consent to a sale if the amount is right, and this opening €32m offer is simply the first step in talks. Assuming that Bayern discards the offer a fair statement, given what we know then Barcelona will have to come back with a better pot of money next time for Poland Football World Cup team striker Robert Lewandowski. How far will they go? How much can they even afford? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
