Qatar raises certificates for FIFA World Cup 2022 stability

FIFA World Cup 2022 organizers in Qatar say the 2022 Football World Cup tournament will be neutral for the first time, thanks to stadiums made from 70pc reconstructed construction waste. Recycling facilities are installed in all stadiums, and facilities are set up nearby to reduce carbon emissions during the trip, according to Bodour Al-Meer, director of sustainability at Qatar’s Supreme Heritage Delivery Committee.

Our sustainability plan will bring about a wonderful FIFA World Cup and at the same time bring tangible progress to our 2030 national aspirations and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, al-Meer told the Gulf Petrochemicals Association Plastics Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The promoters have purchased 3.4mn’s carbon credits to help advance the event to carbon-neutral, but sustainability challenges still exist such as polyester recycling of flags, banners, and jerseys, rPET production of food and beverage containers, and pyroclastic transformation feedstock. Al-Meer urged industry delegates to seek help with these challenges. If we can use sports access to promote stability, we think it could be the biggest sporting victory ever, he said.
