Since The Bees entered the EFL more than a century ago, more than 1,000 players have arisen in our colours, but goals in international football matches have been hard to get by for Brentford players, with only 15 men are finding the net for their countries. Brentford soccer players have been elaborate in international football for longer than The Bees have been Football League side and 53 have won caps. Brentford’s first international was Joe Connor, who played twice for the Ireland national football team, which presented the island of Ireland from 1882 until 1950, in 1903.
The Bees were in the Southern League at that time, but Joe played in the British Home Championships 1902/03, winning two of his three caps while with Brentford. He also became the first player to score an international goal while a Brentford player when he found the net vs Scotland. Tommy Shanks also played Ireland in 1905 and it was then almost 30 years until Dai Hopkins became Brentford’s third international, representing Wales. Dai scored twice in 12 games for Wales between 1934 and 1939. He was the second Brentford soccer player to score for his country and was until very afresh the only man to do so twice. Dai scored vs Ireland in 1935 and England in 1938. He also found the net once in Wartime internationals that are not given official position.
Brentford played in the upper position of the First Division in the late 1930s and nine players won international praise, involving the Club’s only two England internationals Billy Scott and Leslie Smith. Only Les Boulter, for Wales vs Ireland, of those nine scored. Jimmy D’Arcy was on Brentford’s books from 1952 to 1954 and gained Northern Ireland caps soon after the British nation started playing international football. He scored once in four caps won while with Brentford.
Hermann Hreiðarsson attained 12 of his 89 Iceland caps while with The Bees and scored versus Andorra while on Brentford’s books. Stuart Dallas and Alan Judge scored for their home countries while with Brentford as did Henrik Dalsgaard. Henrik won 22 of his 26 Denmark caps while with The Bees, which makes him the Club’s highest capped player. He was the first Brentford player to present in a FIFA World Cup, helping Denmark reached the last 16 in Russia in 2018. His only goal for Denmark came versus Switzerland in March 2019.
Tariqe Fosu scored for Ghana previous year and Mathias Jensen did so for Denmark in March. Marcus Forss found the net for Finland vs France last year and got his second goal in November. Christian Nørgaard found the net for Denmark end October and Halil Dervişoğlu did so in May 2021, before appearing for his country in the late UEFA European Championships 2020.
Halil and Marcus joined Dai Hopkins as players to get two goals for their countries while with The Bees last year. Marcus took his tally to two but Halil went even finer. He has four goals for Turkey and keep the Club Record for most international goals.
Our international goal scorer group grew in March when Yoane Wissa scored for the Democratic Republic of Congo vs Morocco and Christian grabbed his two goals. That took our total of international goal scorers to 15 and those with higher than one goal is now four players. With further international soccer games coming up, some new records may be demolished.

Man Utd staff have made intentions clear on Hannibal Mejbri as burst details emerge
It only took hours from Manchester United’s tragic season concluding for the ‘Old Trafford whodunnit’ to finally be resolved. Following the 4-0 loss at Brighton start of this month reports surfaced of a training ground bust-up between two nameless united players. Social media was awash with opinion over those involved, with no clear answer displaying itself in the final weeks of the campaign.
But less than 24 hours after the Red Devils’ inferior Premier League season closed with a 1-0 setback at Crystal Palace, the Daily Mail reported that it was in fact Alex Telles and Hannibal Mejbri that let their irritation get the best of them.
Hannibal wasn’t involved in the defeat at the Amex Stadium, left out of the squad and likely left anxious like so many of United’s despondent supporters. But staff at Carrington clearly didn’t hold the arguments against the academy graduate, with the 19-year-old handed a start at Palace on the final day.
It was perhaps another sign of the furious and combative edge that has been so sorely lacking from United’s feeble represent this term. Fans were given a glance of that approach in the closing stages at Anfield, rejection like so many of his team-mates to be toyed with by the senior Liverpool players.
