An increase in passenger numbers and an increase in the number of airlines seeking to operate in the country from Hamad International Airport has pushed the network company to make temporary but significant changes to ensure all services run smoothly within a few promising and exciting months.

Temporary Reduction

It should not be underestimated the significance of the FIFA World Cup sports event. And the fact that this is happening in Qatar is an exciting and sought-after moment for the government. It is important not only for the fans but also for the country itself that everything involved in the running of the historic football tournament went well including the round trip to Qatar.

The event will run from mid-November to mid-December, with Qatar expecting more than a million visitors during that time. Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker told reporters at the IATA International Air Transport Association (AGM) annual meeting in Doha this week that the airline would have to restructure airlines within 30 days to free up some areas.

The freight forwarding company will also increase capacity on routes where the demand for football fans is very high this will include routes to 32 countries that will compete in this year’s sporting event.

Al Baker, during the IATA AGM, said we will have to withdraw from many areas to reduce the volume and allow other airlines to come and use the spaces. This will happen within 30 days. Some Qatar Airways routes to countries not participating in the 32-nation tournament will be suspended, while others will be reduced.

Al Baker declined to comment on which routes would face a temporary withdrawal. Interestingly, although Qatar Airways is not the only airline that uses Hamad International Airport as its base, it controls the airport. For more to know about Qatar World Cup tickets Click here.
