A winter spectacle, with a female referee, and teams of 26 players
FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to be an unusual world cup. For the first time in its 92-year history, the biggest football event to come to the Middle East region and the winter months, unlike in the summer. Other games will be played in the world’s largest open-air stadium with an air conditioner and handled by female referees following the trail.
For the first time, FIFA on Thursday night announced that the number of players to be included in the final squad for this year’s Qatar World Cup 2022 finals from November 21 to December 18 will increase to 26.
The world governing body has explained that the new changes were made due to the need to maintain more flexibility due to Qatar’s unique Qatar World Cup 2022 season and the broader context of the disruptive effects created by the COVID-19 epidemic in the teams before and during the tournament. FIFA has confirmed that teams can nominate up to 15 players to close the match, meaning they can all sit on the bench, with no player left out.
The recent decision to expand the roster means that the Football World Cup will embrace major changes to the rules of the third consecutive program. Goal-line technology was first used during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The technology traces the location of the ball about the goal line, to eliminate the person’s error when deciding whether a goal has been scored or not. The assistant referee for the video (VAR) appeared for the first time at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It is a team of three senior officials who have been removed from the field, and who work in the video room to review the decisions made by the chief referee.
Four types of decisions are highlighted: goals, red cards, penalties, and incorrect ID when awarding a card. The use of goal-line technology and VAR has fueled controversy and increasing team size is similar. Some said it favored football officials because they could keep more players involved by making more changes.
But England manager Gareth Southgate said the change was long overdue. He lamented that the exclusion of three players from each team on the game day contributed to the team’s solidarity. If the teams are going to be big, it should be a situation where everyone can change on the day of the game, Southgate told a press conference.
Whether it is necessary to have a large team originally COVID, now people are talking about summarized games. I still think it is a great skill to choose a 23-year-old and fix it all. But I think everyone should be present at every game. Female volunteers benefit from Generation Amazing football during development times
Qatari female volunteers participated in soccer during the development of the Generation Amazing Foundation FIFA World Cup legacy program presented by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC). Held at the recently launched Generation Amazing Community Club at the Al Egla Training Facility in Lusail, the weekly sessions aim to teach important football life skills, such as communication, organization, teamwork, and leadership while promoting gender equality and inclusion.
Participants have supported several major events organized by SC, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Arab Cup. Generation Amazing’s Marketing and Communications Director, Moza Al Mohannadi, said the times were helping to leave a lasting legacy for the FIFA World Cup in the country. These sessions equip women and help them learn skills that will help them in their professional and personal lives, she said.
We are proud to offer these opportunities to women who have played an active role in supporting the delivery of major events across the country. Several study leaders began as participants in the Generation Amazing sessions – proving the impact of this project. One of the study leaders, Yasmeen Shabsough, is the Team Services and Operations Coordinator at FIFA World Cup 2022 LLC. She previously played for the Jordanian women’s soccer team.
Planning projects like this are important before hosting the World Cup, Shabsough said. The local women have been part of many testing events and will be part of the success of the tournament later this year. It is good to learn about football and to give something back to the community. For more to know about Football World Cup tickets Click here.
Veronicah Mburu, from Kenya, believes the participation will support her bid to become a Qatar World Cup 2022 volunteer by the end of this year. It’s amazing to be part of a community of women who love football like me. At the same time, this is a great opportunity to work on our development while getting to know each other. We make friends for life, says Mburu.
I have learned many skills, including leadership and teamwork. These are important assets for me as I hope to be a Qatar Football World Cup volunteer so I can help host the world at my second home in November and December, he added.
Launched by SC in 2010, Generation Amazing operates internationally, including in Qatar, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Rwanda, and Uganda. Through its developmental football program, the foundation has had a positive impact on more than 750,000 people and aims to surpass one million beneficiaries before the end of 2022.
